The Supreme Court was established in 1789 and first assembled in 1790. Since that time, presidents have nominated 164 people to serve on the Court and the Senate has confirmed 127. How has the process of Supreme Court nominations and confirmations changed since our founding? How has the Senate’s “advice and consent” role changed? What caused these changes?
